Corinium Museum is an award-winning museum showcasing high quality archaeological collections dating from the Stone Age to the Civil War. The Museum is an inspiring venue for school groups to visit and our collections offer a fantastic resource for budding archaeologists, historians, re-enactors and artists. Formal education sessions are offered at KS1, KS2 and KS3 for primary and secondary schools studying Stone Age to Iron Age, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Tudors, Classics or Classical Civilisations, local history and archaeology.

Corinium Museum has vibrant and informative Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman, Anglo-Saxon and medieval galleries. Throughout the galleries, children can learn through interactive tables including materials sorting, making Latin words, playing Roman or Anglo-Saxon games and recreating life in a medieval abbey. There are two learning spaces, the ‘Winstone Learning Centre which brings learning to the forefront of the museum and the Lifelong Learning Centre which converts to a 72-seat lecture theatre for reenactor sessions. A KS2 Stone Age to Iron Age school workshop is offered to schools as part of our learning programme. In addition, we offer KS2 and KS3 workshops for schools studying Romans, including Roman Life, Roman Houses, Roman People and Roman Identity. We also offer workshops covering Anglo-Saxons and Tudors.

The museum has a bookable lunchroom, a cloakroom for coats and bags, plentiful toilets and fully accessible galleries.

Corinium Museum displays high quality archaeology from the Cotswolds. The collection celebrates the lives of people through their material culture and showcases beautiful work created by the ancient artisan. These artefacts are perfect for inspiring learning.

All of the museum’s workshops link to archaeology and the evidence uncovered at local digs. Children have the chance to learn through activities that put them into the shoes of a Roman or Anglo-Saxon from times past through creating a mosaic, dressing up, identifying an object and much more. Children are encouraged to apply their inquisitive minds by playing the role of an archaeologist discovering an ancient artefact for the first time. All workshops are cross-curricular and the Roman workshops contain a little bit of Latin. The workshops link to the galleries and the objects on display with specially created gallery worksheets to save teachers’ the time in creating their own.

Schools can book online with a user-friendly process that outlines costs and facilitates schools that prefer to be invoiced for their trip. There is also a ‘plan your visit’ page with all necessary visiting information. Teachers are also entitled to a free preliminary visit after they have booked their trip.
