Heights of Abraham
Heights of Abraham
Heights of Abraham is a 60-acre Georgian hilltop estate, first opened in 1787. Located on the edge of the Peak District and accessed by an exciting flight in a cable car, with two underground cavern tours, exhibitions, adventure play and stunning views, the Heights is a fun-filled educational day out!
What We Offer Visiting Schools
A school trip to the Heights of Abraham begins with an exciting cable car ride flying 554ft upwards to the summit of Masson Hill. Once at the top, there are guided cavern tours offered in underground illuminated caverns. The Great Masson Cavern tour focuses on Geology, caves and rock formations, while the Rutland Cavern tour is given in Victorian character and transports pupils back in time to Victorian Britain to explain the history of the caverns. We have two historical exhibitions, two short educational films, living history actors, historic buildings, fantastic viewpoints and are located on a SSSI with natural beauty around every corner.
Why Choose Us for an Educational Visit
A visit to the Heights is different to the usual school trip and focuses on physical experience rather than classroom learning. Our learning approach is experiencing what’s around you, and taking in the new environments that the Heights offers. A trip on the cable cars is a big memory for a child to make, as is a trip underground into a cavern, as are the giant slides we have in the playgrounds! Our ethos is to make a memorable day out for the children, with education at the heart of what we do.
