Explore the World of Physics at the National Video Game Museum
The National Videogame Museum delves into the world of physics this half term. Starting from the 11th and throughout February half term, the museum will be hosting a special event jointly created by the University of Sheffield, CERN and the NVM, which will provide a 360 degree virtual tour recreating the Large Hadron Collider!
Combining particle physics and the Large Hadron Collider with videogames, the Museum will also explore the science behind videogame mechanics and gameplay via the newly installed Physics Exhibit, featuring six playable games. During the week of half term engaging physics based activities for children to learn and take part in will also be taking place.
The NVM will be open every day from the 11th – 19th February from 10am. The NVM is also taking school bookings which are available as self-led visits or can include their award winning workshops which are perfect for developing STEAM skills. The ‘Build a
Controller and Defeat the Aliens’ workshop allows groups to design, construct and test a working videogame controller to defeat the aliens in Space Invaders. There’s also ‘Pixel Art and Designing Videogame Characters’ where students can learn how to create and animate
a pixel art videogame character!
Also, coming soon is a brand new workshop, in collaboration with The University of Sheffield, based on the CERN event from half term holidays. It will aim to create an understanding of CERN and the importance of physics in videogames.
