Get up close to a pair of Emperor Scorpions this half term!
New to Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm this half term from 18 – 26 February, is a pair of Emperor Scorpions, one male and the other female. They are residing in Minibeast Metropolis where visitors can get up close to them behind the safety of glass. The Scorpions, which are native to rainforests and savannas in West Africa, are one of the largest Scorpions in the world and live for 6 – 8 years. Their body is black, but like other scorpions, they glow pastel green or blue under ultraviolet light. They are carnivorous and enjoy a diet consisting of live insects.
Meet the ‘Mini-Beast’ handling sessions and demonstrations will take place daily in the Discovery Zone at 11:00am throughout the half term week. Visitors and families can join the Education Team and get close to some of the amazing creatures that live at the Butterfly Farm such as Giant Stick Insects and Madagascan hissing cockroaches, as well as learn about the life cycle of a butterfly.
There will also be Pupae preparation on Wednesday 22 February followed by a Beetle demonstration on Saturday 25 February showing various stages of the beetle lifecycle.
