Buxton Crescent are offering a range of learning opportunities for nurseries, schools, youth groups and home-ed visits including hosted tours and workshops. Combine more than one workshop to build a half or full-day visit.

A hosted Tour of The Buxton Crescent Experience

90 minutes – (£4.50 per pupil).

We can tailor your hosted tour to meet your classes’ needs and build on learning at school. Inspire learning on an array of topics including The Water Cycle, Peak District Geography, Local History.

The 9 rooms of the Visitor Experience are a unique learning environment to discover the story of how Buxton has changed over time. Your pupils can admire amazing architecture and play the interactive Water Cure game. Try on historical hats and fly on a virtual reality hot air balloon trip across the Peak District and see thermal spring water flowing from St Ann’s Well – the water cycle in action!

Facilitated Workshops for KS1 and KS2

In addition to the hosted tour, we offer two hands-on facilitated workshops for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. If you book a tour of The Buxton Crescent Experience, make a half-day of it and add a facilitated workshop for just £1.50 per pupil more!

Test the Waters with Mary the Buxton Well Woman

60 minutes (The water cycle, science and geography focus)

Meet Mary the Well Woman in the Victorian Pump Room opposite the Crescent. Carry out scientific tests on Buxton Water and discover why water is so important to Buxton.

Building Buxton

60 minutes (Art and Design and History focus)

Grab our Buxton Crescent sketch books and explorer tools and take a closer look at the Crescent’s Grade 1 listed Georgian architecture. Spot and sketch the symmetry and architectural features that make it so special.

Upcoming family activities

Join us on Tuesday 4th April and Tuesday 30th May for FREE family crafts in the Assembly Rooms from 10:30-12pm and 2-4pm. No need to book.

Our monthly ‘Pitter Patter’ sessions for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers and their grown-ups in the Buxton Crescent Experience will be held on Fri 24th March, Fri 28th April, Fri 26th May and Fri 30th June from 9:20-10:50am, book your free place via the website or Eventbrite.
