The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the round table is based at Tintagel Castle in Cornwall. Cared for by English Heritage this magnificent castle clings dramatically to the cliffs. If you are lucky you will spot seals in the sea below. The parish church of Tintagel, St Materiana’s, is an interesting place to stop records show that a church has stood on this site since the 6th century and you are able to arrange a tour with the local vicar to tell you about its history.
Cornwall is famous for its stunning coastline offering great resources for geography field trips. Spend a day on one of the stunning sandy beaches by enjoying a surfing lessons or one of the many other water sports or activities that are available and immerse your students in its natural beauty.
The Eden project, with its giant golf balls house different climates of the world including tropical rainforests and temperate/Mediterranean. Make sure you include one of their excellent workshops to involve and teach your pupils about our world.
Cornwall’s rich history and the tales of pirates, smugglers of days gone by will enthrall them. Another is that Cornwall has its own language, Cornish. Cornish is a Celtic language spoken mainly in Cornwall as Kernow and there are an estimated 3,000 speakers today.
