Lime Tree Observatory and Planetarium offers a unique interactive opportunity to learn about the Universe in comfortable surroundings.  Students are led through the Universe using modern digital presentation on our 6.5 metre dome.  Hands on activities are also included for younger students.

What We Offer Visiting Schools:

Each session is tailored to the agenda of the teaching staff, specific topics or general key stage.

Why Choose Us for an Educational Visit:

The facility is unique using 360 degree projection on a 6.5 metre dome and can accommodate classes of students in comfort. Evening visits include guided telescope access (weather permitting).

Subjects and Topics Covered:

Astronomy, cosmology, space science, research and discovery, space travel, solar system and the general universe!

Accreditation and Awards:

Awarded the Sir Patrick Moore prize 2025 by the British Astronomical Association for encouragement of popular interest in astronomy.

Group Sizes Catered For:

The facility can hold 30 students.

Risk Assessment:

A Risk Assessment document is available and a CPP has been filed.  Under no circumstances are students supervised directly by volunteers. A minimum of 2 teachers is required.

Schools only: Adults £12, children U16 £8.

Toilets, small kitchen area, supplementary classroom.

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities:

Any special needs should be communicated to the facility during the booking process.  The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Opening Hours:

The facility is totally volunteer run so is opened by pre-booking only. School visits can be accommodated during the school day or in the evening to also include stargazing. Our season runs from September through March.
