FREE Learning Sessions 2026/27!

Holocaust Centre North are delighted to announce that in the academic year 2026/27 all learning sessions will be free! Our learning programme for secondary and upper primary students that helps students to gain an in depth knowledge of the Holocaust through the stories of Holocaust survivors and refugees from the North of England.

We have worked hard to ensure that our learning programme is free so that it as accessible as possible for all young people. Our Travel Subsidy Scheme will also still be in place making visiting us even easier.

What We Offer Visiting Schools

We offer a core programme of workshops for both primary and secondary students that have been designed to be age appropriate and develop students knowledge of the Holocaust, whilst addressing common misconceptions and the contemporary relevance of learning about the Holocaust.

We also have a series of ‘Hands on History’ sessions which allow students to use their knowledge and skills to explore history in different ways, these can be added to any of our core programming.

Why Choose Us for an Educational Visit

Our learning programme has been developed using the voices of Holocaust survivors and their families who made new lives in the North of England, giving students a unique opportunity to engage with the history through the lives of those who survived who are from their own communities. Our programmes use these stories to tell the wider story of the Holocaust, whilst building knowledge, empathy, and critical thinking skills.

Group Sizes Catered For

Each learning session is designed for up to 40 students. We can cater to bigger groups but we cap this at 70.

Itineraries, Resources, and Workshops

A 2 hour workshop includes 40 minutes in our learning room with an educator, 40 minutes in the exhibition with a focused task, followed by 40 minutes with an educator drawing things together and focusing on contemporary relevance.

Facilities

We have a dedicated learning room alongside our exhibition, as well as a cloakroom.

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities

We have level access to the Centre. Our technology in the exhibition is fitted with T-Loop. We have an accessible bathroom. Please advise us of any other access needs so that we can assist where able.

Opening Hours

We are open Monday – Thursday for the public and school groups. School visits may sometimes be able to take place on a Friday. We also open to the public on Sundays.
