The Roman Baths Virtual Learning Sessions

Primary – A Roman Adventure

Join an expert from the Roman Baths and head on a Roman adventure! This session is suited for children aged 7-11 and studying the National Curriculum. We are happy to discuss your specific learning aims.

What went on in a typical day at the bathhouse? Explore how the Romans would have cleaned themselves, what clothes they wore and the snacks they had available while relaxing in the baths. In this fun and interactive session our experts will encourage thinking like an archaeologist, using 2,000-year-old Roman artefacts to bring the story of the baths to life. Can you work out what the objects were used for? What objects survive for us to discover, and why might we have to use replicas?

Our experts will ask you questions and encourage you to ask questions of them too!

Secondary – Investigate Aquae Sulis

Join an expert from the Roman Baths as you set out to explore the Aquae Sulis – the Roman name for the city of Bath. This session is suited for children aged 12-16 and studying Roman Britain, Classics and/ or Latin. We are happy to discuss your specific learning aims.

Come face to face with an inhabitant from the Roman city and use archaeological thought and scientific reasoning to discover more about their life. Explore aspects of Roman social and religious life through 2,000-year-old artefacts that highlight the roles and layouts of the temple complex and bathhouse.

This session complements several popular Latin study courses and includes an opportunity to translate an altar from the temple courtyard.

The hour-long session is highly interactive – our experts will ask you questions and encourage you to ask questions of them too! The session includes time at the end to ask more in-depth questions about Roman life.
