Great Orme Mines – Teachers’ Resource Pack

Explore the history of Great Orme Mines with this downloadable Teachers’ Resource Pack, designed to help teachers and group leaders get more from a school visit to the site.

The guide takes teachers through the different stages of a visit, beginning in the education room and continuing through the Bronze Age mine, smelting shelter, opencast workings and the site’s later 19th-century mining history.

It includes suggested questions and discussion points covering topics such as the Bronze Age, copper and tin, malachite, Bronze Age mining tools, working conditions and the smelting process. For example, pupils can explore how malachite was mined for copper and how copper and tin were combined to produce bronze.

The pack also contains practical information for teachers, including site safety guidance, visitor FAQs and a site map, together with a picture quiz that can be used to reinforce some of the key facts pupils have learned during their visit.
