Overview
School Trip to Cornwall
A school trip to Cornwall is a memorable experience and one that you would not always think of undertaking. The first images of Cornwall you immediately think of are the wild open beaches on the North Atlantic coast popular with surfers, or the sheltered coves of the South Coast and the Rosalind Peninsular but there is so much more on offer.
Your trip starts on your journey down as there are plenty of places to stop for a break half way which will inspire your pupils and make sure that your trip gets off to a great start. Iconic Stonehenge, for example, a place that all children should visit at least once in their life, is an ideal place for a stop to eat lunch, stretch your legs and learn something too. It will certainly set your class in the mood and what’s in store for the week ahead.
Rich in history, visit the home of King Arthur at Tintagel Castle, or learn about the myths and legends, the pirates and smugglers of the past. Study cliff erosion at Bedruthen Steps, Cornwall is rich in geographical and geological features, but remember it is always important to take a guide with local knowledge not just about health and safety issues to help protect your group but also will know the secret spots to visit. From early spring, the high hedgerows and banks are full of wild flowers and there is plenty to see and do.

Itinerary
Day 1
Start your trip with a break enroute to Stonehenge, an ideal stopping off point and will set your pupils in the mood of what adventures lie ahead.
Arrive at the hostel, situated at the tip of Cornwall in the heart of picturesque St Ives and settle into your accommodation. After your evening meal there will be time for beach activities and to explore the town. Since the 18th century St Ives has been a popular artists colony attracted by the light and beauty of the area.
Day 2
Today it’s time for a spot of art appreciation with a visit and workshop at the Tate St Ives art gallery and post lunch, a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture park. All within walking distance we can leave the coach behind for the day. After an early dinner, take a sea safari trip to explore the natural beauty of St Ives Bay and Seal island.
Day 3
No trip to Cornwall would be complete without having a try at surfing. With specifically tailored surfing and beach lessons for schools and colleges with highly trained professionals, it’s time to hit the beach to be kitted out and learn everything a beginner needs to know about beach safety, paddling technique, how to catch waves and the fundamentals of getting up to your feet on the board.
After lunch and perhaps a change of clothing, head off in the coach to visit the Minack Theatre for a workshop, tour and to enjoy a play. The experience of sitting in the open air amphitheatre with the cliffs and sea as a backdrop on a summer’s evening is a unforgettable.
Day 4
A trip to Geevor Tin Mines will have your students enthralled and learn a little about life not so long ago as some of the tour guides used to be miners working in this mine.
After the visit enjoy a picnic lunch but for those still peckish we recommend the homemade Cornish Pasties. After lunch head off to visit St Michael’s Mount the iconic landmark on the opposite side of the peninsular to St Ives.
Depending upon the tide you can either walk across the causeway to the island or take a boat ride across the narrow channel.
Enjoy a tour of the castle and gardens before heading back to the mainland and tides permitting spending some time on the beach before an early fish and chip supper at a local hostelry.
Day 5
An early breakfast and departure as you start your journey home, stopping off enroute for one more day of adventure at the Eden Project. Enjoy a rainforest tour and tropical rainforest workshop before wandering through the Mediterranean Dome which will set you in a relaxing mood for your journey home.
