Itinerary
Day 1:
Morning: Travel & Arrival
Coach Journey: Travel from school to Manchester, aiming to arrive near the Imperial War Museum North (IWMN) for the first stop, breaking up your journey with a packed lunch stop on the way.
Afternoon: Imperial War Museum North (IWMN)

Activity: Explore the museum’s compelling architecture and immersive exhibits, focusing on modern conflict and its impact on people and society.
- Key Stage 2: History: Stories of wartime life and the concept of remembrance. Simple chronology of 20th-century conflicts.
- Key Stage 3: History/PSHE: Causes and consequences of conflict (WWI/WWII to present). Understanding propaganda and its impact on society.
- Key Stage 4 (GCSE): History/Sociology: Analysis of how total war affects civilian life and the political/social aftermath of major conflicts.
- Key Stage 5 (A-Level): History/Politics: Critical examination of historical interpretations and the political drivers of conflict. Discussion on memory and commemoration.
Late Afternoon: Check-in
Travel to your Manchester City Centre accommodation and check in.
Evening: City Centre Science & Dinner
Evening Meal: Enjoy a dinner at the accommodation, followed by a walk to the Printworks.
Evening Activity: Bowling or Cinema Trip
- Choose a popular, large venue like the Printworks entertainment complex, which houses both cinema screens and a bowling alley (e.g., Tenpin Manchester).
Day 2:
Morning: Football Glory
Attraction: Manchester City Stadium Tour and Museum

Activity: An immersive tour experience exploring the stadium, dressing rooms, and the club’s history.

Lunch
Enjoy a Packed Lunch provided by your accommodation, to be eaten at the Etihad Stadium or nearby.
Afternoon: Industrial Revolution
Attraction: Science and Industry Museum (SIM)
Activity: Exploring the museum’s huge collections covering the cotton industry, steam power, railways, and computing history.
- Key Stage 2: History/Science: The Industrial Revolution, learning about steam engines and the cotton industry. Basic transport and communication history.
- Key Stage 3: History/D&T: Manchester’s role in global change, the impact of technological innovation (textiles, canals, railways) on society.
- Key Stage 4 (GCSE): History: In-depth study of social/economic change during the Industrial Revolution. D&T: Material science and engineering principles in early industry.
- Key Stage 5 (A-Level): History/Economics: Analysis of industrialisation’s causes and long-term effects. Computing: The birth of modern computing (Manchester’s role).
Evening: Dinner Out & Theatre
- Evening Meal: Dinner Out at a Local Restaurant in Manchester City Centre (e.g., the Northern Quarter) for a change of atmosphere.
- Evening Activity: Cultural Hub Visit. A pre-booked performance or activity at a major venue like the Palace Theatre or The Lowry.
Day 3:
Morning: Forest Adventure
Attraction: BeWILDerwood Cheshire

Activity: Students enjoy active, outdoor adventure play in the unique woodland setting.
- Key Stage 2: PE/Literacy: Gross motor skills, coordination, and following simple narratives (storytelling). Nature appreciation.
- Key Stage 3: PSHE/PE: Social interaction and confidence building through physical challenge and cooperative play.
- Key Stage 4/5: Limited Focus. Primarily physical activity. Potential links to Leisure Management or Forestry for case studies.
Lunch:
Casual Lunch at the SIM café or designated picnic area before departing.
Afternoon: Journey Home
After a fun and educational school trip, students board the coach for the journey back to school.
